Level of assuranceReasonable
We present your financial statements in proper form from your records. No assurance is expressed. Right for many small businesses and associations.Analytical procedures and inquiry give limited assurance. The highest level of assurance for boards, lenders, investors and regulators.

FAQ

Quick Answers

Find answers to common questions about our services, pricing and process. For more details, visit our FAQ page.

Do I need an audit, a review, or a compilation?

It depends on who is asking for your financial statements and why. A compilation presents your financials in proper form, with no assurance. A review adds analytical procedures and inquiry, giving limited assurance. An audit includes testing and confirmations and results in an independent opinion, which is the highest level of assurance. Lenders, funders, state law, investors, or your governing documents often dictate which one you need. Not sure? Use our service finder or book a short call, and a CPA will tell you.

How do your fixed fees work, and what will it cost?

We quote a fixed fee in a written proposal before any work begins. It covers the scope, deliverables, and timeline, so there are no surprise bills. Your fee depends on your organization’s size, complexity, and the service you need.

How long does an engagement take?

Timelines are set in your proposal and based on your deadline. You’ll hear back within 1–2 business days of your first call and receive a proposal within 1–3 business days after that. The engagement itself depends mainly on how quickly your records are ready. For example, one client needed a full audit in four weeks and received it in three. If you have a hard deadline, tell us up front and we’ll plan backward from it.

Can you work with us if we’re not in Virginia?

Yes. GreyWood is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, but is licensed by the Virginia Board of Accountancy and authorized to practice public accounting nationwide. We serve clients in every state through remote and on-site engagements, and we offer state-specific guides for VA, NY, TX, FL, and CA.

Who will actually work on my engagement?

Experienced CPAs handle every engagement, and you’ll have direct access to them throughout, not just at the sales stage. We keep you updated at each step so you never have to chase us for progress.

What types of organizations do you work with?

We serve private companies, nonprofits, and HOAs/condominium associations, with industry experience in healthcare, education, construction, and technology/SaaS. We also handle specialized work such as Single Audits, Form 990 and 1120-H preparation, employee benefit plan audits, and Reg A+ audits. If your industry isn’t listed, ask a CPA and we’ll tell you whether we’re a fit.

What happens after I request a proposal, and what will you need from me?

First, you’ll have a short call to discuss your organization, who needs the report, and your deadline. We’ll then send a written proposal with scope, timeline, and fees. After you accept, we send a tailored document request list, and you upload your records through a secure portal. We then complete the work and deliver your signed financial statements on or before the agreed date.

“Where there is order in accounts, there is truth in affairs.” Attributed to Luca Pacioli, Summa de Arithmetica (1494)

Attributed to Luca Pacioli, Summa de Arithmetica (1494)

From the earliest principles of double-entry bookkeeping, the purpose of accounting was not speed or convenience, but order, balance, and verifiability.

Modern audits follow the same logic: independent examination exists to confirm that records reflect reality, not intention.

Assurance turns accounting into something others can trust.
